Faith in Action

Faith in Action is part of Methodism ethos. In the first half of the XVIII century, John Wesley (father of the Methodist movement) explained why to be Christian means to be involved.

“When I say ‘This is essentially a social religion’, I mean not only that it cannot subsist so well, but it cannot subsist at all, without society, -without living and conversing with other men. [...]

Another necessary branch of true Christianity is peacemaking, or doing of good. [...] What can be more plain than this fundamental branch of religion of Jesus Christ cannot possibly subsist without society, without our living and conversing with other men [and women]?”

John Wesley; Sermon on the Mount (IV) edited in 1748

In the XXI century, Methodists are still implementing Christ’s teaching reminded to us by Wesley. To be Christian is to get dirty hands.

[...] faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead. But someone will say, ‘you have faith; i have deeds’. Show me your faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do.

James 2:17-18

On this page you will see various actions and activities initiated or supported by CEMC but also check on the British Methodist website for other ways Methodists are involved in modern society. http://www.methodist.org.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=opentoworld.index
