The initiative is to provide a team of multi-faith chaplains at the Sheriff Court in Edinburgh who will provide an independent, confidential listening and support service to court users of all faiths and none. The chaplaincy group will provide support and training to volunteers.
The court’s users who will benefit from the new service are people attending the Edinburgh Sheriff Court – victims and witnesses of crime; those accused of committing offences; spouses, partners, families and friends of the above; court officials and other staff; solicitors; probation service staff; court interpreters; and members of the public attending the Sheriff out of general interest.
People who access the chaplaincy service will gain faith-based support, confidential assistance and a listening ear, as well as practical support and help regarding other agencies.
